Internship Information

The St. Louis Sports Commission offers an internship program–during the fall, spring, or summer academic semesters of a university student, either on a full-time or part-time basis. Occasionally post-graduate internships are available. (For information on Arch Rivalry marketing internships, click here.) A background in sports administration, sports marketing, sports management, communications, or journalism and a passion for sports are preferred. Hours of work are flexible and depend on the student’s schedule and the Sports Commission’s event calendar. The intern’s learning experience is acquired by working normal business hours of the Sports Commission and at events produced by the organization. Generally internships are not compensated; however, parking is paid.

Interns have the opportunity to assist/be involved in one or more of the SC’s functional areas.

Development

  • Partner/Member acquisition and events
  • Other fundraising activities
  • Database usage for mailings to partners/members/others

Events

  • Event preparation/planning (vendor management/client interface)
  • Event operations/management
  • Bid proposals/presentations
  • Research in preparing bids and other purposes
  • Database usage for mailings and other uses

Foundation

Working on Sports Foundation programs, with community and youth programs such as:

  • Sportsmanship Initiative
  • Coaches Clinics
  • Gifts & Grants Program
  • Youth Clinics
  • Youth Ticket Program
  • Database usage for mailings and other uses

Marketing & Communications

  • Newsletter articles, news advisories, and press releases
  • Programs and creating program ads
  • Event media planning and management
  • Newspaper (publications) clippings
  • Research
  • Database usage for mailings and other uses

Administrative

  • Mailings for events and other projects
  • Database tasks relating to organizational and functional areas

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in related academic program for working in the sports industry
  • Prior sports related experience preferred and helpful
  • Pursuit of a sports industry career much preferred
  • Good writing and people skills
  • Computer skills using Microsoft Office software applications, Outlook, ACT! (database) and Internet
  • At least a 2.5 "gpa"

Qualified individuals will be contacted to schedule an interview with the Sports Commission staff. Discussion will center on the Sports Commission’s needs/expectations and the intern’s requirements/desires.
