It prevents violent action toward officials, spectators, and opponents which has unfortunately become part of the current sports landscape. Most importantly, good sportsmanship encourages the intrinsic rewards of athletics – teamwork, fair play, and fun.
Those who take the Sportsmanship Pledge agree to be an example of sportsmanship, promoting its principles regardless of time, place, or activity.
