VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR

2009 NCAA® WOMEN’S FINAL FOUR® IN ST. LOUIS

 

            ST. LOUIS – Sept. 16, 2008 – St. Louis area residents once again have the chance to become part of a major sporting event taking place in the region.  The St. Louis Local Organizing Committee for the 2009 NCAA® Women’s Final Four® is recruiting 1,500 volunteers to help St. Louis stage the pinnacle event of women’s college basketball, the Women’s Final Four, which will take place April 5 and 7 at Scottrade Center.

Volunteers will be asked to serve as ambassadors for the community, welcoming nearly 30,000 fans from around the country, along with the participating teams and hundreds of national media.  Specific volunteer roles include: serving as airport and hotel greeters; assisting at hospitality functions; working at the NCAA Hoop City® Refreshed by Coca-Cola® interactive fan festival and other special events such as the March to the Arch Fueled by POWERade®, the 4Kay Run Presented by The Hartford®, NCAA YES® Clinics Fueled by POWERade®, and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Convention and High School All-America Game; and helping with various transportation needs connected to the Final Four.

All volunteers will receive official volunteer apparel free of charge.  Volunteers must register for a minimum of three shifts and attend a training session.  All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older by March 30, 2009.  Transportation volunteers must be at least 25.

The 2009 NCAA Women’s Final Four will be the 10th NCAA Division I Championship to take place in St. Louis this decade.  The region previously hosted the Women’s Final Four in 2001 and the Men’s Final Four in 2005.
