ST. LOUIS SPORTS COMMISSION NAMED 2002 NASC "SPORTS COMMISSION OF THE YEAR"CINCINNATI, OHIO (May 7) As part of its 2002 membership awards program, the National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) selected the St. Louis Sports Commission as its Member of the Year. The announcement was made at the NASCs Sports Event Symposium in late April in Reno, NV. The Member of the Year award is given to the active NASC member that has had the most outstanding impact on its local community through sporting events, community activities, charitable giving, and economic impact. Entries were reviewed by a panel of association members. Nearly 270 organizations are members of the NASC. "The St. Louis Sports Commission has been a member of the NASC since its inception in 1992. We congratulate them on this award and commend them on their success within the industry over the past decade," said Don Schumacher, executive director for the NASC. Founded in 1989, the St. Louis Sports Commission has attracted a prestigious lineup of major sporting events to the St. Louis region. In 2001, the organization was part of the local organizing committee for the NCAA Womens Final Four and played a role in such events as the State Games of America, Spirit of St. Louis Marathon, and Olympic Torch Relay. The Sports Commission also secured the NCAA Wrestling Championships for 2004 and 2005, and landed the 2003 Womens USA Marathon Championship and 2004 Womens Olympic Marathon Trials. Additionally, its Sports for Kids program produced a series of activities aimed at enriching the lives of area young people through sports. Headquartered in Cincinnati, the NASC is managed by Don Schumacher & Associates, Inc., a sports marketing, management, communications and consulting company. The NASC Semi-Annual Meeting will take place in Chicago in conjunction with the TEAMS Conference & Expo, October 26-29. The 2003 NASC Sports Event Symposium will be held in Chattanooga, TN at the Convention Center Marriott April 9-12.
