ST. LOUIS SELECTED AS FINALIST CITY FOR 2007 AND 2008 NCAA FROZEN FOUR

ST. LOUIS — May 9, 2003 — The NCAA announced today that St. Louis is one of five cities under consideration to host the 2007 or 2008 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four. The Frozen Four is college ice hockey’s national championship. Twelve cities submitted bids to the NCAA prior to the May 2 deadline. Today, the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Committee narrowed the number of prospective sites to five. Members of the St. Louis bid team will now make a formal presentation to the committee on June 4 in Indianapolis. The NCAA will select its host cities shortly thereafter.

The St. Louis bid was prepared by the St. Louis Sports Commission, which is partnering with Savvis Center and College Hockey America (CHA). The CHA is one of six conferences in Division I men’s ice hockey. St. Louis was named a finalist city during the last Frozen Four bid cycle in 2000, but was not chosen as a host.

The Men’s Frozen Four has been a sellout for the last four years — and nine of the last 11. This year’s event took place in Buffalo, N.Y., and drew an estimated 12,000 visitors to the city.
