LOUIS — Feb. 2, 2004 — Attention track & field coaches, administrators, and parents. Looking for a chance to freshen up your skills before the spring season begins? The St. Louis Sports Commission's Sports for Kids program is hosting a free Coach it Right! track & field coaches clinic Feb. 28 at Normandy Senior High School. The instructional clinic takes place from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Viking Hall Gymnasium at the corner of Lucas & Hunt and St. Charles Rock Road. Participants will receive expert instruction on hurdles/sprinting, throwing events, jumping events, distance running, training, nutrition, sportsmanship, and proper motivation of youth athletes. Instructors include: Ivory Crockett, former 100-yard dash world record holder; Michael Franks, 1985 World Cup Champion, 400-meter dash and 1600-meter relay; Jameson Allen, Lafayette High School head coach; Darryl Levey, Hazelwood East High School head coach; and Norris Stevenson, St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley head coach. Under the banner of Coach it Right!, Sports for Kids organizes free coaching clinics throughout the year focused on sportsmanship and aimed at developing and augmenting the skills of youth sports instructors to make them better coaches. The mission of Sports for Kids is to help young people from the St. Louis area live healthier, happier and more productive lives through sports. In 2003, Sports for Kids conducted coaching clinics for soccer, football, and wrestling, as well as coach and parent sportsmanship seminars at Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club, the Greyhound Basketball Club, and Clayton Parks and Recreation. |
