LOUIS – Jan. 21, 2003 – The St. Louis Sports Commission’s board of directors has selected Doug Albrecht, president and CEO of Centric Group, as the organization’s new chair. Albrecht succeeds St. Louis area attorney Walter Lamkin, whose term ended in 2002. Albrecht will lead the Sports Commission through 2004. He served as the organization’s vice chair since 2001. “Doug has shown a tremendous commitment to the Sports Commission and we are fortunate to have him in the position of chair for the next two years,” said Sports Commission President Frank Viverito. “His leadership, expertise and dedication will be great resources for the organization. It’s up to our staff, board and community to make the most out of Doug’s chairmanship – which presents a wonderful opportunity for the Sports Commission to build on its success. We are certainly in good hands.” Albrecht has held his position with Centric Group – formerly Enterprise Capital Group – since 1989. He chaired the Senior PGA Boone Valley Classic from 1996 to 2001 and currently serves on the volunteer boards of several area organizations, including the Regional Business Council and the St. Louis Children’s Hospital Foundation. Albrecht is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia where he played baseball and was an all-Big Eight selection in 1974. “All of us involved in the Sports Commission are very proud of its accomplishments and the impact it has had on St. Louis,” Albrecht said. “As we move forward, it is my hope that we remain focused on producing high-quality events for the community. I look forward to the exciting time that is ahead and to helping the Sports Commission carry out its goals and achieve great results for St. Louis.” In addition to Albrecht’s appointment, the Sports Commission’s board elected Scott Schnuck, president and COO of Schnuck Markets, Inc., vice chair of the organization. St. Louis Rams Senior Vice President Bob Wallace will continue to serve as the Commission’s treasurer and secretary. The board also approved the nominations of ten new directors: Joe Brennan (Dillard’s St. Louis Division president); Robert Ciapciak (Edward Jones partner); Arnold Donald (Merisant Company chairman & CEO); Melanie Foley (SBC legislative affairs director); Lou Fusz Jr. (Lou Fusz Automotive Network president); Matt Kraner (St. Louis Post-Dispatch general manager); Doug Reader (Coca-Cola Central States area vice president); Peter Sortino (St. Louis 2004 president); Anthony Thompson (KWAME Building Group, Inc., president & CEO); and Roger Walcott (Peabody Energy executive vice president – corporate development). Former chair Lamkin will remain on the organization’s board. “We owe a great amount of gratitude to Walter Lamkin,” said Albrecht. “Walter played a major role in the organization’s recent success and in its ability to become an industry leader. He cares deeply about St. Louis, is passionate about the Sports Commission’s efforts, and is a great advocate and friend of the staff. We are glad that Walter will retain a seat on the board and continue to champion our cause.” Albrecht is the Sports Commission’s seventh chair since its inception in 1989. Previous chairs were Tee Baur, Harry Morley, Nick Penniman, Joe Farrell, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, and Lamkin. |
