Boone Valley Golf Club: A Brief History

The development of 440 acres of scenic farmland into Boone Valley Golf Club began with a vision. This vision would come to be shared by four men with the combined knowledge, desire, and resources to make it a reality.

The project began in June of 1988 with Bob Ross, former PGA Tour professional and one time golf professional at Bellerieve Country Club in St. Louis. His search for partners to develop a private golf club deserving of national recognition would ultimately attract three leaders in the St. Louis business community: James L. Manion, Robert E. Saur, and Jack C. Taylor.

The site of Boone Valley Golf Club was located by James Manion and resoundingly approved by golf course architect P.B. Dye. The land was purchased in the fall of 1989 and efforts to form the nucleus of a membership began.

On the strength of the Board of Governors and the site selection, sufficient membership was formed allowing construction to begin in July of 1990. In May of 1991, The Crawford Group, headed by Jack C. Taylor, acquired Boone Valley Golf Club. Architect Laurent Torno was hired to design the clubhouse that would overlook the valley and its two six-acre lakes. Following the completion of the maintenance facility in the fall of 1991, construction began on the 8,000 square-foot clubhouse. The vision of Boone Valley Golf Club became a reality in July of 1992.

From 1996 to 2000, Boone Valley Golf Club hosted the Boone Valley Classic, a Senior PGA TOUR event. In 2001, Boone Valley also hosted the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Match Play Championship.
