ATHENS 2004 Olympic Torch Relay & St. Louis' Olympic Centennial Celebration Thirty-five cities hosted the Olympic Torch on its trip around the globe. But only one, St. Louis, had the opportunity to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its Olympic Games as the torch passed through. On June 17, St. Louis was the 12th of 35 cities worldwide, and one of only four American cities, to host the first-ever global Olympic Torch Relay. click here for highlights... 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Diving presented by Bank of America One hundred years after making its Olympic debut at a man-made lake in St. Louis' Forest Park, diving returned to its Olympic birthplace for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Diving. click here for highlights... 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Women's Marathon The weather couldn't have been any better, the fans were tremendous, and the runners provided quite a story at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Women's Marathon presented by Michelob Ultra. click here for highlights... 2004 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships click here for highlights... 2003 Illinois-Missouri Football Game 63,576 fans packed into the Edward Jones Dome as the Sports Commission and St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission hosted the second consecutive Missouri-Illinois State Farm Showdown on August 30. The Showdown, presented by AT&T Wireless, saw the Missouri Tigers earn a come-from-behind 22-15 victory over the Fighting Illini. It was the second consecutive season the Tigers opened the campaign with a victory over Illinois after pulling of a 33-20 upset in 2002. The contest was televised nationally on ABC-TV. click here for highlights... 2002 Missouri-Illinois Football Game The Sports Commission and St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission helped take the region's favorite college rivalry to the football field. Missouri and Illinois kicked off the 2002 season -- and their two-year series in St. Louis -- at the Edward Jones Dome on Aug. 31. More than 60,000 fans electrified the Dome as the Tigers and Illini met on the gridiron for the first time since 1994. It was their first meeting in the Gateway City since 1969.
