Lea Plarski

Citizenship Through Sports Alliance Lifetime Achievement Award

In honor of her numerous accomplishments, as well as her undeniable dedicaton to student-athletes, the National Junior College Athletic Association named its annual award after Lea – a strong advocate of sportsmanship in athletics. Since 1995, the Lea Plarski Award has been presented to an NJCAA student-athlete who exemplifies sportsmanship, leadership, communnity service, academic excellence and athletic ability. Lea, the former director of athletics at St. Louis Community College – Florissant Valley, helped establish the Women’s Division of the NJCAA in 1975. In 1990, she made NJCAA history as the first female ever elected president, a position she held from 1990-96. In addition to being recognized as an outstanding faculty member at Florissant Valley, Lea coached nine different intercollegiate sports. She has been involved with the United States Olympic Committee, the World University Games and the 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival. Lea has also worked with the Women’s Sports Foundation, USA Basketball, the Amateur Softball Association and the American Bowling Congress, as well as many international organizations.
