Taj received the 2005 Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award presented by Secret. The award honors the WNBA player who best represents the ideals of sportsmanship. Taj has been active in the Connecticut community, especially through her involvement with the WNBA’s Read to Achieve program. Last season, she participated in the dedication of the Connecticut Sun Reading and Learning Center and was involved in the Basketball and Books Summer Reading program. In 2004, Taj was the celebrity reader at the Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut and participated in the annual WNBA Finals Read to Achieve event. The 6-2 forward is a force on the court as well. The Sun has advanced to the WNBA Finals the past two seasons thanks in large part to the play of Taj, a five-time WNBA all-star. “She always plays with great intensity, but she’s played the right way,” said Connecticut Sun coach Mike Thibaut. “Taj has earned the respect of everyone she’s ever played against.”
