2005 NBA Sportsmanship Award - Joe Dumars Trophy
National Basketball Association

For his remarkable efforts on and off the court during the 2004-05 season, Grant earned the Joe Dumars Trophy as the recipient of the 2005 NBA Sportsmanship Award. On the court, Grant fought back from three injury-plagued seasons to play in 47 games for the Orlando Magic – averaging 19.7 points while playing more than 30 minutes per game. But off of the court is where Grant makes his biggest difference. His community activities span the entire United States. Grant and his wife, Tamia, donate many dollars and hours to charities, schools, scholarships, nonprofit organizations and churches through the Tamia & Grant Hill Foundation. The couple is also on the National Advisory Council Board for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. They assist the foundation in raising awareness, increasing funding and granting wishes. Grant’s intention is to assist as many people as he can through personal support and financial contributions. He has pledged his time and financial support to a myriad of community investment programs, including a $1 million donation to his alma mater, Duke University; a $50,000 donation to benefit Child Abuse Prevention; the establishment of the Calvin Hill Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Duke Divinity School (in honor of his father); and the Grant Hill Achiever Scholarships in Orlando and Detroit to assist students in pursuit of an undergraduate education.
